Understanding the complexities of learning to read.

Participants will take away a variety of reading activities to use in the classroom and a comprehension technique that will enable students to retain more information they read.

  • Identifying how our brain and reading works
  • Exploring a variety of skills needed to learn to read – visual/auditory
  • Trialling a variety of reading activities to support reading skills
  • Understanding and working with a comprehension technique to enable readers to improve comprehension skills.  This is particularly targeting students who are able to decode however have poor comprehension

Target audience: Teachers, teaching assistants and supply teachers – Primary and Secondary.

Tutor: Ana Pryce
Ana has worked in the education sector for nearly 30 years teaching in Primary, Secondary, Further Education and Higher Education. For the last 14 years Ana has been focussing on working with people of all ages with Specific Learning Difficulties.

Please note that your school budget share will be debited on ledger code 7926 up to two weeks prior to attendance at this course, in line with the cancellation policy.

Booking and Cancellation Policy

Course location, programme and any course materials will normally be sent to you prior to the start of the course. All cancellations must be sent in writing as soon as the applicant is aware that they are unable to attend. If the cancellation is received 6 weeks (or 30 working days) or more prior to the start of the course, cancellation will be free of charge. If the cancellation is received between 6 weeks and two weeks (10 working days) prior to the start of the course a cancellation charge of 50% of the course fee will apply. If the cancellation is received after this point a cancellation charge of 100% of the course fee will apply. Exeter Consortium has the right to amend or cancel any courses as a result of unforeseen circumstances.
