We are excited to be offering two brand new courses for the Exeter Consortium and wider Teaching Schools South West membership during the Summer 21 term. On Monday 24th May, David Weatherly will be hosting an online 'Improving Outcomes in Geography: EYFS – Year 6' course. Whilst on Friday 11th June, David will be hosting an online 'Improving Outcomes in History: EYFS – Year 6' course. Both sessions will run from 9.00am - 3.30pm. Each day will focus on the key principles of designing and teaching a curriculum in Geography and History which is rigorous, fosters the development of young geographers/historians and which can be assessed in a practicable way. The sessions will be immersive and interactive with an emphasis throughout on reflective professional practice. About the Trainer

 Starting on Tuesday 8th June, this three-session masterclass has been designed to provide a practical introduction to income generation. This will empower delegates with the confidence, skills and resources needed to introduce and sustain successful income generation in their school.
Masterclass Overview Delegates will learn how to select the most effective fundraising method to meet their school needs and how to prioritise those initiatives most worthy of their efforts. The masterclass will cover grant funding, crowdfunding, business sponsorship, gift aid and much more, with insight into how best to assemble a compelling story to engage supporters and potential donors. Resource packs will be provided, including an income generation plan and project template, allowing delegates to quickly introduce some of the key principles being explored. Simple and quick wins will enable delegates to make an immediate impact on their return to school – swiftly demonstrating a return on their investment! Who should attend? This masterclass is designed to meet the ISBL Professional Standards, tier 1 and 2; providing the foundations for a coherent and structured income generation approach in school. As such the appeal will be broad; from school business professionals and finance leaders to headteachers and governors. No prior experience of school fundraising is necessary. As part of our partnership with Teaching Schools South West we are pleased to launch the Addressing the Disadvantage Gap programme.
This is based on the EEF Pupil Premium programme and will be delivered online over 4 modules (Starting 12th October) by the Kingsbridge Research School. It is free to schools that are part of the TSSW Partnership. Addressing the Disadvantage Gap is part of the TSSW Covid and Beyond Support Offer (visit www.teachingschools-sw.org.uk/school-improvement.html to download).  TSSW and its partner TSA's (including Exeter Consortium) were due to host the 2020 Summer Conference on Thursday 11 June 2020. However, the Covid-19 and social distancing restrictions prompted a re-think. During a time of unprecedented challenge for schools, we still wanted to offer an event to inspire and bring the profession together – albeit virtually.
Working with video production company Bitpod (who led TSSW's series of webinar training sessions for colleagues), we have now scheduled the conference on the slightly later date of Wednesday 1 July 2020 as a virtual conference and are delighted to announce the following programme of exciting keynotes and workshops: Christine Counsell | Education Consultant and previously Senior Lecturer at the University of Cambridge “Shaping a powerful curriculum: knowledge, literacy and inclusion” Professor Becky Francis | Chief Executive Officer of the Education Endowment Foundation “Using evidence to narrow the gap” Dr Sam Friedman | Associate Professor in Sociology at London School of Economics “The Class Ceiling: Why it Pays to be Privileged” Professor Paul Kirschner | Professor Emeritus at the Open Universiteit “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: What Educational Psychology tells us about Good Teaching” The event has been condensed to under four hours as we are mindful of limiting on-screen experience for colleagues. Because sessions are delivered through webinars, delegates will be able to take breaks at their convenience and catch-up on sections missed. An added benefit is that delegates will be able to view the recordings of all the workshops from the day. The conference is open to school leaders, teachers, Governors, researchers and other educational professionals and the keynotes and workshops are appropriate for both primary and secondary. As a not-for-profit event, income from the ticket sales and advertising should cover the cost of production, presenters and administration. It is important to us to offer a premium conference experience for under £50 (£35 for TSSW members). We look forward to you joining us on the day.  We're looking forward to welcoming Ferre Laevers and Julia Moons to the South West for the TSSW Early Years Conference 2020 later this year. Ferre is director of the Research Centre for Experiential Education based at the University of Leuven and former President-elect of the European Early Childhood Education Research Association. Most of his work is linked to the innovative ‘Experiential Education’ project (EXE) of which he was the founding father, more than 35 years ago. In EXE, a child’s wellbeing and the intensity of his or her mental activity (involvement) is seen as a key indicator for the ‘power’ of the learning environment and a condition for ‘deep-level learning’. Julia Moons has been part of the EXE project since 1980. As a preschool teacher she has made a major contribution to the development of practice that supports well-being and involvement in children. This conference was established because of the Teaching Schools South West (TSSW) Early Years SLE teams’ desire to bring specialists to Exeter and ensure inspirational speakers are available to all teachers across the South West.
