QUOTES FROM TRAINEES
From the moment I sent a brief message to Louise enquiring about the course (resulting in me not applying anywhere else as I knew I wanted to proceed with my training with Exeter Consortium), I have received amazing kindness and support from all the staff. Being a mum of two young children, I felt that the staff on this course have always been mindful of my work life balance. I also felt that a vital part of my positive well-being outcome relied heavily on my school placement and my relationship with my mentor. I was so fortunate to have such lovely mentors (ladies who have children and understood family life) that I felt I could still be a mum whilst fulfilling all my duties as a trainee teacher. I also felt that if I had any concerns the staff at Exeter Consortium were very approachable and accommodating. I have enjoyed the training that Exeter Consortium have provided. Having the opportunity to visit a variety of different schools and meet educators from all backgrounds has given me profound insight to professional development and networking for my career. I would like to thank the Exeter Consortium staff for all their support throughout my training. TRAINEE 2018-19
From the first day of the course, I knew I had made the right choice to train with Exeter Consortium. From the pre-course admin to our final graduation, I received nothing but the best support and positive guidance at every stage of the training process. With a large proportion of time spent in school placements, I was able to see how current educational thinking can work in practice, as well as get an authentic idea of what it is like to be a teacher and confirm that this is the career for me. Alongside this, the training input I received from experienced practitioners was relevant and engaging and covered a wide range of topics. I was fully supported in completing the academic assignments by both the Consortium team and tutors from Bath Spa University.
As a result of the high-quality teacher training I received, I have been able to secure a teaching position and begin my NQT year with confidence, and I would not hesitate to recommend Exeter Consortium to anyone thinking of training as a teacher. – Abi (Trainee 18/19 and currently an NQT in a partner school)
I would highly recommend doing your teacher training with the Consortium. The staff are extremely friendly and supportive. They’re always happy to help you and provide a wealth of advice. They made sure to place me in schools that suited my personality and I was lucky enough to have two amazing placements. From my first day at school to my last day at the Consortium, Dawn was there for me through every step of my journey. Overall, my teacher training journey has been thoroughly enjoyable - I’m not just saying that, promise! – Rosie (Trainee 18/19 and currently an NQT in a partner school)
Right from the beginning, I was really impressed by the service that the Exeter Consortium provides for trainees. They took into account my needs when considering my placement schools, which meant they were easily accessible without a car, and were on hand at every step with support and advice. Knowing that I could contact their staff - who have practical classroom experience and knowledge of the course, and really cared about my progress - made it so much easier to achieve QTS status. I believe that this is what sets the Exeter Consortium training route apart from others.
The course is excellently structured, increasing the workload and responsibility at a well-considered pace. The consortium team, from top to bottom, have been generous, supportive and highly professional. 2019/2020 Primary Cohort
Exeter Consortium is an amazing teacher training provider. We are supported throughout our training by an incredible team who really care about our progress and work tirelessly to support us to succeed. I couldn't recommend them highly enough! 2019/2020 Primary cohort
We are fortunate enough to have someone who is extremely wise and inspiring to lead our Schools Direct group. The support and advice from my university tutor and my class teacher has been invaluable. Being in schools from day one allowed us to build up a rapport with the pupils and staff which proved very helpful. 2015/2016 primary cohort
The GPS material that I have made the most use of so far in school has Rosenshine's principles. Using the idea of breaking the learning down into small steps has really helped to make planning more manageable. 2019/2020 primary cohort
All feedback and concerns were addressed in a timely matter. I had no worries about the training itself, but when I asked Dawn for suggestions about a child who needs extra support, she not only talked to me about it at length, but sent me useful resources later on. I believe I speak for all trainees when I say that we feel very supported by Dawn and Louise. 2019/2020 Primary Cohort
I really enjoyed the input from Penny around numeracy. It was an area in which I was most nervous. We got some excellent classroom resources and lesson ideas. It gave me confidence to teach sequences of numeracy and build a clear picture of the progression of skills. 2019/2020 primary cohort
High expectations leading to high achievements and employability at the end of the course. 2015/2016 primary cohort
The speaker for the GPS on how to teach Science also challenged our preconceptions about how we view and teach the subject. His practical approach was insightful and practical. The workshop on the use of our Voice was another important one, with plenty of practical advice. Most of all, Dawn's sessions on planning have been extremely useful and I have been using the recommended tools ever since. 2019/2020 primary cohort
The Consortium have been fantastic at providing extra sessions to support and grow the cohort professionally. The extra support they provide is unparalleled to anything else, they really go above and beyond to establish us early on as professionals. Before we even started in our home school it has always felt like we are the Consortium's number one priority which instills a humbling sense of confidence in yourself and your cohort. Not only do Exeter Consortium provide the invaluable extra support, the social support from the cohort is amazing; we have all rallied together to guide each other through placements and the university course. The opportunities to meet working professionals from around the county working in a variety of schools is an opportunity that not many trainee teachers are given. Having moved cities, choosing the School Direct route has to be one of the best decisions I have ever made because of these reasons. 2015/2016 primary cohort
QUOTES FROM TEACHERS AND SCHOOL LEADERS
I was impressed with the level of reflection on the part of the leaders and the strong consultation process that has taken place. This has led to worthwhile changes being implemented leading to a cohesive programme for 2019/20. This is a fit for purpose, robust programme with pedagogy at the forefront. NATIONAL LEADER OF EDUCATION.
We recently interviewed several Early Years trainees from a range of providers for an Early Years post. The quality of the trainees from Exeter Consortium, in terms of depth of knowledge, practical experiences and their ability to articulate their learning was outstanding. The candidates were able to apply their learning from the course exceptionally well in the interviews. We had no hesitation in shortening the field to the Exeter Consortium candidates and then had great difficulty in deciding which of these trainees to appoint. All in all, it was clear that the course is significantly strong in preparing Early Years teachers for entry into the profession.
This is the best group of ITT students we have ever had, both in terms of the relationships they have built with the school and the quality of the trainees.
A QUOTE FROM AN APPLICANT WHO ATTENDED FOR INTERVIEW RECENTLY
I just wanted to send you a line to thank you and your team for such a pleasant interview experience!... you were so welcoming and supportive at Exeter Consortium. The interview experience really helped to solidify my confidence and desire to become a teacher.
A QUOTE FROM A POTENTIAL TRAINEE WHO ATTENDED A RECENT TASTER DAY
Just a quick note to say thank you to you and your colleagues for the open evening on Tuesday. It struck a nice balance between informality and informative. I would feel very happy to contact the team for further help and information.
