Hear from trainees and NQTs why they chose to train with us and what their experience was like.
Jacqui made this video in summer 2020 and explains how training was for her. We regularly take feedback from our trainees and school to use this to inform our programme development. One thing we hear regularly is that our pastoral care, personalised approach and ongoing support after you qualify is second to none.
QUOTES FROM TRAINEES
This course is brilliantly organised and supports you immensely in every aspect of your training. (2020/21 Primary Cohort)
Right from the beginning, I was really impressed
Exeter Consortium is an amazing teacher
I really enjoyed the input from Penny around numeracy. It was an area in which I was most nervous. We got some excellent classroom resources and lesson ideas. It gave me confidence to teach sequences of numeracy and build a clear picture of the progression of skills. (2019/20 Primary Cohort)
The course is excellently structured, increasing
All feedback and concerns were addressed in a timely matter. I had no worries about the training itself, but when I asked Dawn for suggestions about a child who needed extra support, she not only talked to me about it at length, but sent me useful resources later on. I believe I speak for all trainees when I say that we feel very supported by Dawn and Louise. (2019/20 Primary Cohort)
The speaker for the GPS on how to teach Science also challenged our preconceptions about how we view and teach the subject. His practical approach was insightful and practical. The workshop on the use of our Voice was another important one, with plenty of practical advice. Most of all, Dawn's sessions on planning have been extremely useful and I have been using the recommended tools ever since. (2019/20 Primary Cohort)
The GPS material that I have made the most use
From the first day of the course, I knew I had made the right choice to train with Exeter Consortium. From the pre-course admin to our final graduation, I received nothing but the best support and positive guidance at every stage of the training process. With a large proportion of time spent in school placements, I was able to see how current educational thinking can work in practice, as well as get an authentic idea of what it is like to be a teacher and confirm that this is the career for me.
Alongside this, the training input I received from experienced practitioners was relevant and engaging and covered a wide range of topics. I was fully supported in completing the academic assignments by both the Consortium team and tutors from Bath Spa University.
As a result of the high-quality teacher training I received, I have been able to secure a teaching position and begin my NQT year with confidence, and I would not hesitate to recommend Exeter Consortium to anyone thinking of training as a teacher. – Abi (Trainee 2018/19 and currently an RQT in a partner school)
I would highly recommend doing your teacher training with the Consortium. The staff are extremely friendly and supportive. They’re always happy to help you and provide a wealth of advice. They made sure to place me in schools that suited my personality and I was lucky enough to have two amazing placements. From my first day at school to my last day at the Consortium, Dawn was there for me through every step of my journey. Overall, my teacher training journey has been thoroughly enjoyable - I’m not just saying that, promise! – Rosie (Trainee 2018/19)
As an older entrant into the ITT process I was very concerned that I would find it difficult to cope with the demands of studying at the same time as working in school. The support I received both from the staff at Exeter Consortium and in my placement schools was excellent and quickly put my mind at ease. There was always someone available to help me through my difficulties, despite my lack of confidence with some of the technology and the record keeping processes involved!
The SCITT process does exactly what it says on the tin, offering opportunities to quickly deploy the theory of the General Professional Practices sessions into your classroom practice, always secure in the knowledge that any queries or problems that you encounter can be speedily resolved by your tutor or mentor.
The move into lockdown at the end of the spring term, which could have been extremely stressful, was handled so professionally by the staff at Exeter Consortium that the training programme continued without interruption.
At every stage of my training year I felt valued and supported a feeling that has continued beyond the training year and has included help in obtaining an NQT post. I cannot recommend Exeter Consortium ITT highly enough.
QUOTES FROM TEACHERS AND SCHOOL LEADERS
I was impressed with the level of reflection on the part of the leaders and the strong consultation process that has taken place. This has led to worthwhile changes being implemented leading to a cohesive programme for 2019/20. This is a fit for purpose, robust programme with pedagogy at the forefront. (National Leader of Education)
We recently interviewed several Early Years trainees from a range of providers for an Early Years post. The quality of the trainees from Exeter Consortium, in terms of depth of knowledge, practical experiences and their ability to articulate their learning was outstanding. The candidates were able to apply their learning from the course exceptionally well in the interviews. We had no hesitation in shortening the field to the Exeter Consortium candidates and then had great difficulty in deciding which of these trainees to appoint. All in all, it was clear that the course is significantly strong in preparing Early Years teachers for entry into the profession.
This is the best group of ITT students we have ever had, both in terms of the relationships they have built with the school and the quality of the trainees.
A QUOTE FROM AN APPLICANT WHO ATTENDED FOR INTERVIEW RECENTLY
I just wanted to send you a line to thank you and your team for such a pleasant interview experience!... you
were so welcoming and supportive at Exeter Consortium. The interview experience really helped to solidify my confidence and desire to become a teacher.
A QUOTE FROM A POTENTIAL TRAINEE WHO ATTENDED A RECENT TASTER DAY
Just a quick note to say thank you to you and your colleagues for the open evening on Tuesday. It struck a nice balance between informality and informative. I would feel very happy to contact the team for further help and information.
